For the first time, Islamic Cultural Association (ICA) took part in Hong Kong’s most popular annual cultural event, Hong Kong Book Fair, which concluded at the end of July this year. It's been such a good experience, ICA plans to participate again in 2010 with an even stronger determination to promote Islamic culture in the Book Fair.
The Hong Kong Book Fair celebrated its 20th birthday this year. It has become the most-attended book fair throughout the Chinese-speaking world. This year even we are goad to know that the record-breaking attendance of 900,000 visitors, among whom were those from the Mainland and Taiwan.
The week-long Hong Kong Book Fair is not only a sales campaign of books & magazines, but also an occasion for different religious organizations to promote their cultures. The visitors are happy with our volunteers'friendly attitude and want to share their religion views with us. We believe that better communication means better understanding.
Among the various sections in the Book Fair is a pavilion where different religious bodies, such as Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, Taoists, are found. In the early years of the Book Fair, Muslims were present as an exhibitor. After that, Muslims had been totally absent among the Book Fair exhibitors for many years. The participation of ICA this year heralds the change of Muslims becoming active again in the Book Fair. |
